Summer finally arrived the last 2 days, but what a change from most of the month of June. Farmers were able to get their corn and soybeans planted, but the cool moist soil did not allow for great germination. Most were able to get their first crop of hay harvested and second will be coming right along.
With the Fourth of July being this coming Saturday, we felt it appropriate to give our transfer attendant the day off as most of us will be celebrating and not thinking about taking things to the transfer station this Saturday. The transfer station is open Wednesdays from 5-8 pm during May through August and 5-7 during September.
This year we are only having one clean up day and that is scheduled for July 18. Again, let me remind area people that this is for Scipio residents only.
Many types of wildlife are enjoyed by our residents. However, last month a bear was spotted in the Firelanes 6 and 7 area early in the month and most recently around Firelane 9 heading north towards Ensenore. Residents are encouraged to secure their garbage, take down bird feeders and clean grills to prevent it from returning.
Finally, continue to be safe, especially around construction crews maintaining our roads by resurfacing, mowing or digging ditches. Enjoy the beautiful vistas we have around our town as well as the lakes.
